DARG session: Elizabeth Peel

March 1, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm GMT

On Wednesday 1st March at DARG, 13:00-14:30 UK time, there will be a hybrid (in-person and online) data session hosted in room B114 (Brockington Building, Loughborough University) or join us on Zoom.

The session will be presented by Elizabeth Peel from Loughborough University.

Session details:

Interspecies intersubjectivity? In this data session we will focus on examining the scope and parameters of interspecies intersubjectivity in two excerpts from the Dog Talking & Walking Project video-data corpus. In the first extract, a human ‘referees’ between their dog and cat who are ‘fighting’ at breakfast time. Issues of age and status also come into play. In the second extract, the human initiates wolf-like howling with one of their dogs and they jointly share in the howling activity. The participants don’t also engage in shared barking, which is unwanted behaviour from the human’s perspective.
