SUMMARY:CA Day 2026\, Monday 14th December (hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:Register here! | Submit an Abstract \n\nLoughborough University’s Discourse and Rhetoric Group (DARG) hosts its 19th Conversation Analysis Day on Monday the 14th December 2026\, 9:30am-5:30 (followed by an evening reception with food and wine)\, supported by the Centre for Research in Communication and Culture. \nJoin us for a (hybrid) meeting comprising a series of paper presentations in an informal and friendly atmosphere. \nInvited Speakers\n\nMarina Cantarutti\, University of York\nJP de Ruiter\, Tufts University\n\nWe welcome presentations on all aspects of interaction illuminated by Conversation Analysis. \nPlease email your abstract (~250 words) to s.b.albert@lboro.ac.uk. Please note that\, apart from in exceptional circumstances\, we can only accept presentations for which at least one presenter is in-person\, though hybrid presentations (where some authors are joining us remotely) are fine. \nContact Saul (s.b.albert@lboro.ac.uk) if you have any questions. \nIf you submit a paper after we have opened the waiting list for registrants\, then you are guaranteed a place only if your paper is accepted. We will let you know by one week after the deadline. \nDeadline for submissions: Friday 2nd October 2026. \nRegistration\nPlease register using this link. \nIn person registration is open on a first come\, first served basis but (unless you are submitting a paper)\, but we only have space for 70 people this year\, so make sure you register soon! \nOnce we have reached capacity\, you can join the waiting list. Normally a number of registrants withdraw before the conference\, and we allocate their places to those waiting. Most withdrawals happen close to the conference date\, though\, so you may not be sure about a place for some time. \nAttendance costs: \n\nIn-person: £25\, or £20 for students/unwaged\, which pays for refreshments throughout the day and the evening reception (you will be able to buy lunch on campus this year)\nOnline-only: £5\, which helps to pay for other event costs and for someone to look after the stream/questions etc.\n\n#CakeOff2026\nWe would also like to invite you to participate in the grand CA Day #CAkeOff2026 competition. \n\n\n#CAkeOff2024 competition winner Emma Richardson and her dense\, wholesome\, foundational cake. \n\nFor those planning on participating in the competition in-person\, please bring your cakes to CA day where our invited speakers will judge\, along with enthusiastic participation from all other CA Day in-person delegates. Last year we also had an incredible entry in our ‘virtual’ CAke category from Annika Valtonen\, Bea Stevanovic\, Teija Ahopelto\, Krista Keränen\, and Melisa Stevanovic. Remote entries are also warmly welcomed for 2026! Any entry format is welcome\, including still images and voice notes of gustatory sounds. \n \n\nVenue information\nPlease contact Saul (s.b.albert@lboro.ac.uk) with any queries.\nWe’ll be in the Brockington Extension\, Room U.0.05. Use these links for travel and campus map.\nAdded: Here’s a list of University accommodation. Other hotels are also available. Overseas visitors: the closest airport is East Midlands Airport (EMA)\, Birmingham Airport is not too far. \nFollow the #CAday2026 hashtag on whatever social media platforms still exist. \nYou can follow DARG on mastodon and the CRCC on mastodon \n\nRegister here! | Submit an Abstract \n\n

SUMMARY:Advanced CA Online Workshop 2027
DESCRIPTION:This 3-day online workshop is for advanced postgraduate researchers\, postdoctoral researchers\, and early career faculty who have a strong working knowledge of conversation analysis (CA) and wish to consolidate their analytic skills. \n\nOnline workshop in Advanced Conversation Analysis Loughborough University 20th-22nd January 2027 \nThis 3-day online workshop is for advanced postgraduate researchers\, postdoctoral researchers\, and early career faculty who have a strong working knowledge of conversation analysis (CA) and wish to consolidate their analytic skills. \nWhat does this workshop promise? \nThe workshop will provide an overview of advanced topics\, problems and prospects in CA research. The workshop aims to enhance participants’ skills in CA methods of analysis and ability to produce original contributions to the field. \nHow is the workshop structured? \nThis workshop will be online on Microsoft Teams. All times are in GMT (London time): \n• Wednesday 20th January 2027 from 10.00 to 16.30 • Thursday 21st January 2027 from 9.00 to 16.00 • Friday 22nd January 2027 from 9.00 to 16.00 \nPresentations by the facilitators will cover advanced topics in CA and its applications to various areas of investigation. Most of the workshop will be dedicated to practical sessions and hands-on analytic work. The participants will work in small groups on video data and transcripts provided by the facilitators. They will identify an original phenomenon and will share their findings in a short\, informal group presentation on the third day of the workshop. The analytic work will be supported by the facilitators. \nFacilitators: Marco Pino\, Saul Albert\, Charles Antaki\, Magnus Hamann\, Ruth Parry\, Emma Richardson. \nPlease note that this is a camera-on online event and that consistent attendance is expected during the three days. \nHow much does it cost? \nFor employed academics and PhD students with training budgets: £300 for the three-day workshop. \nFor unwaged academics and PhD students without training budgets: £100 for the three-day workshop. \nWe encourage potential attenders who are unwaged or otherwise less able to afford the registration to contact m.pino@lboro.ac.uk as fees are negotiable in some circumstances. \nDo I need to have prior knowledge of conversation analysis? \nYes. This workshop is open to participants who have a strong working knowledge of CA. We acknowledge that opportunities for formal CA training and supervision and unequally distributed. Independent learning of CA counts as relevant prior experience. \nHow do I apply? \nPlease send an email to m.pino@lboro.ac.uk introducing yourself and telling us about (max 300 words): • Your existing knowledge of CA and experience with using it in research • Your plans for using CA in your own research \nDeadline for applications: 13th November 2026 Decisions will be communicated by: 20th November 2026 \nThe number of participants will be restricted to 20 to maximise opportunities for interaction. \nWe will use these criteria to allocate places: • Existing knowledge of CA • Being an applicant from regions where there are fewer CA training opportunities (see http://emcawiki.net/Where_to_study_EMCA)
