Session details: In this session I will present video recordings of family mealtimes in which participants co-ordinate ending a shared meal and leaving the table. The children in this family are not typically permitted to leave the table without permission from a parent. I am exploring how this social norm is oriented to and managed between family members over a three year period as all family members gain increasing familiarity and competence navigating the nuances of the ‘ritual’ of leaving the table.
