We are working on how discussions about disease progression and end of life are initiated in palliative care interactions. We are interested in instances where the starting point is a possible allusion (by a patient or companion) to such matters. We are drawing on Schegloff’s notions of allusions and ‘possibles’. We will bring what we consider to be an instance of this phenomenon.
