Data Session: 18th February, Hetty Sargent, Arthur Shoorens & Saul Albert: ‘atypical’ spoken interactions with an LLM-based smart speaker

February 18 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm GMT

DARG will run at 13:00-14:15 UK time as a hybrid data session:
Room SCH0:13 (Schofield Building Building, Loughborough)
Zoom registration link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMpcOqgrjgiHtTW1buxXxCdo2SK5iFfK3iV
(NB: we are now collecting some basic information on who comes to DARG)

Session details: Large Language Models (LLMs) are an increasingly ubiquitous aspect of daily interaction – and are now becoming more common in voice interfaces such as smart speakers. In this session we will look at video data recorded by a person living with a learning disability in their own home. They use a LLM-based virtual assistant as part of their daily routine of self-care, medication, and planning, as well as for scheduled conversations on given topics such as wrestling or technology. This will be a session of unmotivated looking but might also explore broader questions about ‘atypicality’ in relation to either analyst or participant orientations.
