Session details:
This data session focuses on an interactional sequence among high-skilled migrants in Finland, recorded during a dinner gathering at the home of one of the participants. The host is French-Indian, and his guests are Italian, German, and Palestinian-Jordanian. Following dinner, the group continues chatting in the living room. At some point, the conversation turns to cycling. In this specific sequence, the Italian guest questions her Palestinian-Jordanian friend about why she does not know how to bike. The latter responds by contextualizing her upbringing in Amman, Jordan. I am interested in exploring how the White-Eurocentric lens shapes questioning practices and expected norms, and how micro-coloniality is enacted in everyday social interactions.
