Data session: 31st January, Mirko Demasi, War Rhetoric and Deontic Imperatives: Putin and the Russian Council of Legislators

January 31 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm GMT

DARG will run at 13:00-14:30 UK time as a hybrid data session. Room B124 (Brockington Building, Loughborough) or on zoom: password: DARG.

Session details:  The data is a speech delivered by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, as part of an annual meeting with the Russian Council of Legislators. The English translation of the speech is provided in the website of the president of Russia. While I am open to any and all analytic commentary, I would particularly welcome observations that relate to the war in Ukraine in any capacity and, possibly, invocations of deontic authority in relation to the war. This paper builds on my previous and ongoing work on war rhetoric (Demasi, 2023) and the analysis will form part of an invited publication to a Finnish language journal on peace, conflict and world politics (Kosmopolis).
