GailBot Workshop

GailBot – an automated ‘first pass’ conversation analytic transcription system

GailBot is a semi-automated ‘first pass’ conversation analytic transcription system. It allows you to combine the latest capabilities of automatic speech recognition (ASR) services alongside other automated forms of paralinguistic analysis. For example, you can configure GailBot to detect and transcribe overlap, faster or slower talk, sound stretches, and can build your own automated analyses into the GailBot framework.

This hands-on session will introduce the latest version of GailBot, and will walk participants through transcribing different types of data, and configuring which paralinguistic features they want to analyse and represent in their automated transcripts. It will also open up a discussion as to how GailBot might be used in large-scale transcription and analysis projects, where manual transcription may not be feasible.

Participants may bring their own laptops to install GailBot, but note that it is currently only available for Mac (Apple Silicon & Intel) and Linux. Gailbot – and this workshop is gratefully supported by a Sage Concept Grant (https://researchmethodscommunity.sagepub.com/blog/sage-concept-grants-gailbot).
