Join us for a friendly and informal day of networking, discussions and presentations with researchers using EMCA methods (ethnomethodology and conversation analysis) to explore conversations in policing and criminal justice contexts. This could include (but is not limited to) 999/101 police calls, patrol footage, victim/suspect interviews, trial interactions, parole meetings. This year we are introducing a bonus half day of in-person only data sessions following the symposium.
Call for Abstracts now open
We now welcome abstract submissions for both oral presentations and data sessions. Please submit your abstracts by 5pm 15th of June and indicate if you are submitting for an oral presentation (online or in person) or a data session which will be in-person only. Abstracts should be no more 250 words.
Oral Presentations (hybrid symposium 17th September): We invite researchers to submit abstracts for the hybrid symposium on the 17th September to share recent findings or ongoing investigations arising from the research around forensic communications.
Data Sessions (in-person 18th September): We welcome submissions to host small group data sessions in-person on the 18th of September working with audio or video recordings and accompanying Jefferson transcripts of communication in criminal justice settings. Data can include any language, but please provide an English translation in your transcript.
We are committed to supporting individuals from communities that have historically been marginalised and discouraged from progressing to academic research through structurally embedded forms of exclusion and bias. We particularly encourage submissions from researchers from Global Majority communities and researchers working in the Global South.
Registration
Registration is NOW OPEN. The cost for main symposium attendance will be £25 in person, £5 online/concessions. The fee for the hybrid symposium on the 17th of September covers conference overheads. For in-person attendees there will be tea and coffees. Various reasonably-priced food outlets are available onsite for lunch, for which delegates will cover their own expenses. Delegates are also responsible for their own travel and accommodation.
The in-person data sessions on the 18th of September are free of charge but space is limited.
