Data Session: 15th October, Anca-Cristina Sterie: Offering to say a prayer in discussions between hospitalised patients and spiritual counsellors

Session details: In hospitals, spiritual counsellors address spiritual needs that arise from illness, injury, end-of-life, and hospitalisation, offering support regardless of religious background. Their role is to reveal patients’ distress and their resources. In this data session, we will be looking at interactions between a spiritual counsellor and patients hospitalised for geriatric rehabilitation. In particular, we will focus on how the spiritual counsellor introduces the possibility of praying and initiates prayers with patients. Data consist of audio-recorded interviews within a Swiss hospital (in French).
